The Story of McDaniel Knutson
After they graduated from college, founding partners Wayne and Jude McDaniel had a dream. They wanted to build a successful and independent financial planning firm that could not only be good, but also do good.
So, after much time, energy, devotion and prayer, McDaniel & McDaniel Financial Services was born in 1981. Like most small businesses, they needed a dreamer to see the big picture. Wayne was and still is the dreamer. Constantly looking to the horizon to see what’s next, Wayne is the visionary who has been instrumental in steering the company through the more than 30 years of its existence.
Small businesses also need inertia and energy. While Wayne was navigating and charting courses, Jude was below deck rowing, paddling, sailing, running, training, teaching and anything else that needed to be done.
Together, they were able to get the firm up and going. While it was not always smooth sailing, they made constant positive progress each year. They added staff and technology, and moved offices as the business grew. All the while, their impact on their clients and community increased as well.
In 2001, Peter Knutson joined the firm and then became an owner in 2006. He is now the firm's President and has taken over some of Wayne’s original responsibilities while also attending to the needs of his clients. Pete majored in financial planning in college and has been in the business since 1993. He is also the Chief Humor Officer and tries to keep things light around the office.
Victoria Bogner joined the firm in 2005 and became an owner in 2012. She is now its Senior Investment Analyst and Chief Executive Officer. She has also taken over some of Wayne’s original responsibilities while working with her own clients. She’s really, really smart.
In 2014, McDaniel Knutson added another horse to our advisory stable: Jim Moore comes from a commercial insurance and 401(k) background, and he adds another area of specialty to McDaniel Knutson. He played football at the University of Kansas and even briefly played professionally with the Houston Oilers and the Kansas City Chiefs. Jim’s knowledge of 401(k) retirement plans and his unique experience in athletics have allowed us to develop relationships with unique clientele all over the country. He also still holds the KU offensive record for eating the most burritos in one sitting: 17.
From the beginning, Wayne and Jude have always wanted to help those in need, and we continue to pursue that core mission to the present day. As their business has grown, so has the firm’s ability to help causes it supports. The firm has given away 5 percent of gross revenues to charity every year from day one. In the beginning it was 5 percent of just about nothing, but since 2000, McDaniel Knutson had donated more than $1.5 million to charities of all kinds.
Philosophically, we believe the easy money has already been made. We do not believe clients will be able to simply dump money into the stock market and have it magically compound into enough for them to live on indefinitely. As such, we believe that future client success will be determined by developing a plan, outlining goals and implementing creative strategies that are unique to the client.
Our advisors average more than 25 years of personal financial planning experience. We are independent, though we sit on the same side of the table as our clients. We believe that when our clients succeed, we succeed. We are their guides, and we will continue to walk alongside each of them in their financial journey and use our knowledge, skills, and resources to help our clients increase their capacity to live and give.
